Spektrum der FH-Ludwigshafen - Ausgabe 4/2011

21 Internationales I was born on … April 11, 1989 in … 宜蘭 Yilan, Taiwan. I was thinking of studying in Germany … for two main reasons; the first is that most of the people in my country go to study in English-speaking countries like the USA or England , and I wanted to experi- ence something different. In Taiwan we have been greatly influenced by American culture, so I wanted to do something different. Second, I think that there is a lot to see in Europe with their mix of cultural backgrounds and countries, and it’s easy to travel around in Europe. I have been living and studying at LuwigshafenUniversity of Applied Sciences since … last September. What I like most studying here, is … the fact that the school is well-prepared for welcoming international students. AStA and the International Office plans several excursions and a programme of cour- ses for the internatio- nal students taught in English each semester. Each international stu- dent is assigned a tutor to help them if they have any problems. Also the peop- le from In- ternati- onal Office really take care of us. Finally, we are very close to Mannheim University so sometimes we can get to know other students there and do some things together. Nonetheless, I think things could be improved here by … having more classes in such a way that local students and international students have more inter- action. After all, isn’t it why we are here – to get to know the local students better? My German fellow students … have done their semes- ter abroad in my country (Taiwan) but I really don’t know that many German students here. They are really nice and take care of me. When I just arrived in Germany my friends? picked me up at the airport and took me to their house on Christmas day which was my first time celebrating Christmas abroad. My German friends also took me to some places and big events in Germany such as Oktoberfest in Munich and Wurstfest in Bad Dürkheim. Compared to Heidelberg or Mannheim, Ludwigshafen is … a quite new city, full of people from all over the world, as BASF has its headquarters here. It’s a pity that most of the city was des- troyed in World War II – maybe it’s not a beautiful city anymore, but its location is still quite important for Germany’s economy, I think, and it also has the beautiful Rhine River just next to it. In the evening, after my last lecture, I … go to the supermarket to buy what I need for dinner and there are parties in the student dormitory several times a week. My favourite food here is … “Maul- taschen”, as it always reminds me of of Chinese dumplings. After my graduation I would like to ... look for an internship or go to other countries to work for at least a year to gain some working experience before I start my career.
